What is Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge?

Founded in 1997 by Sir Chay Blyth – organised by Atlantic Campaigns, the Atlantic Challenge is a 3000 mile trip across the ocean from Canary Islands (La Gomera) to Antigua (West Indies). When we say “trip”, we’re not talking a luxury cruise. In this event the participants actually complete the voyage in specially designed rowing boats!  In Fact, this challenge is renowned as the worlds toughest row.

Every year in December, the challengers set out on their journey as soloists or as part of a team. The participants can be at sea for as long as 96 days, rowing through the night and conquering any conditions the Atlantic Ocean can throw at them.

This years race was won by Mark Slats and Kai Weidmer (Row4Cancer), and also saw the youngest female ever, Jasmine Harrison, 21 to row the Atlantic solo.

What is our involvement?

Perform Logistics first got involved with the challenge back in 2017, through our association with Atlantic Campaigns. We transport the rowing boats from various destinations around the world to the starting point in La Gomera. The rowers obviously take it from there, but we will be on hand at Nelson’s Dockyard, English Harbour, Antigua to cheer in the competitors as they reach the finish line and complete their epic achievement. Whilst the participants continue their celebrations, Perform get busy loading the rowing boats into shipping containers, and organise the transportation back home.
